The #MarcosCabinet: Manny Bonoan, DPWH Secretary

President-elect Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has named Engineer Manuel “Manny” Bonoan as his pick to lead the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

Currently, Bonoan is the president and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the San Miguel Corporation (SMC) Tollways.

“I’m intending to nominate Manny Bonoan for the Department of Public Works and Highways. He has spent almost his entire professional life in the DPWH, I know him very well, I know he will do a good job,” said Marcos last May 26.

Bonoan has previously tenured as DPWH Undersecretary for Visayas and Mindanao in 1998, and even as acting Secretary for a few months in 2007 under the Arroyo administration.

He has said in media interviews that he would push for the continuation of the Duterte administration’s “Build, Build, Build” infrastructure initiative and to finish unfinished projects left over from the incumbent administration; a sentiment which Marcos and his Vice President-elect Sara Duterte echoed during the 2022 campaign season.

Specifically, he highlighted the prioritization of road projects–the main focus of the DPWH.
