Scattered rains, thunderstorms expected in Visayas, Masbate

The easterlies, also known as warm and humid winds from the Pacific Ocean, may bring cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms in Visayas and Masbate over the next 24-hour period, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Sunday, June 5.

“Dito sa bandang Masbate ay magkakaroon po ng maulap na kalangitan na may kalat-kalat na pag-ulan bunsod po sa tinatawag na easterlies. Sa nalalabing bahagi naman ng Luzon, kasama ang kamaynilaan ay magpapatuloy ang mainit at maalinsangang panahon (Cloudy skies with scattered rains due to the so-called easterlies may persist here in Masbate. In the rest of Luzon, including Metro Manila, the hot and humid weather will continue),” said PAGASA weather specialist Samuel Duran in a public weather forecast.

Residents of Visayas and Masbate were likewise warned against possible flash floods or landslides due to moderate to at times heavy rains that the easterlies may bring.

In Mindanao, on the other hand, localized thunderstorms may occur, especially in the afternoon or evening.

Although no gale warning is in effect over the country’s seaboards, the state weather bureau still advised fisherfolk and seafarers to remain vigilant against slight to moderately rough seas.

Meanwhile, no low pressure area (LPA) or any other weather disturbance is expected to affect nor develop in the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) within the forecast period, PAGASA added.
