The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) Sorsogon, Albay, and Catanduanes Chapters sent one ambulance, food truck, and water tanker to the Bulusan Volcano phreatic eruption victims in Sorsogon on Sunday, June 5.
Hot meals were also served to affected individuals.
The eruption brought light to moderate ashfall and sulfuric fumes to the extreme northern part of Irosin Municipality and the eastern part of Juban Municipality. Affected areas include Puting Sapa, Bura-Buran, Aniog, Bacolod, Catanusan, Guruyan, and Calmayon.
A total of 48 individuals and 10 families of Juban Municipality, including senior citizens, persons with respiratory ailments, children, pregnant women, and lactating mothers, were evacuated to Tughan Isolation Area.
“Makaaasa ang ating mga kababayan na hindi natin sila iiwan hanggang masiguro natin ang kanilang kaligtasan (Our countrymen can assure that they will not be left behind until their safety is guaranteed),” PRC Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Senator Richard Gordon said in a statement released the same day.
Gordon also advised the volunteers to follow the precautionary measures and guidelines during the relief operations in order to avoid any harm. (Luisa Cabato)
