DOST-NCR to establish regional office in Muntinlupa

The Muntinlupa City government and the Department of Science and Technology-National Capital Region (DOST-NCR) signed a deed of usufruct that will allow the latter to establish a regional office in the city.

Under the deed, the Muntinlupa City government has allocated 700.45 sq. m. of its land for the DOST-NCR’s regional office that will be located at the Muntinlupa City Technical Institute (MCTI) in Barangay Putatan.

Muntinlupa Mayor Jaime Fresnedi and DOST-NCR Regional Director Dr. Jose B. Patalinjug III signed the deed of usufruct on June 1.

Under the Civil Code, “Usufruct gives a right to enjoy the property of another with the obligation of preserving its form and substance, unless the title constituting it or the law otherwise provides.”

According to the DOST-NCR, the regional office in Muntinlupa will become part of the Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI) Corridor.

The STI Corridor will facilitate the coordination of the DOST-NCR, Muntinlupa City government, and local universities and colleges such as the Colegio de Muntinlupa (CDM) and Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Muntinlupa (PLMun), and other institutions like MCTI.

In addition, the STI Corridor will be the hub of visiting experts and consultants, researchers, inventors, innovators, and students who will conceptualize, discuss, and build science and technology-based solutions to issues related to the region through research and development, and innovations.

Also joining the signing ceremony were DOST-NCR Chief Science Research Specialist Romelen. Tresvalles, Deputy City Administrator Roger John Smith, and Colegio de Muntinlupa College President Dr. Teresita Fortuna.
