QC celebrates 'World Bicycle Day'; 500 cyclists join bike run

As part of the “World Bicycle Day” celebration, around 500 cyclists in Quezon City participated in a bike run conducted by the Department of Public Order and Safety (DPOS) - Green Transport Office on Friday, June 3.

The local government said on Saturday, June 4, that the participants include bikers from the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and the Quezon City Police District (QCPD).

The cyclists crossed the 93-kilometer bike lane that traverses the city’s major roads -- Quezon Avenue, Commonwealth Avenue, East Avenue, North, Avenue, and others.

Retired Gen. Elmo San Diego, DPOS head, and Mr. Dexter Cardenas, Task Force for Transport and Traffic Management (TFTTM) officer-in-charge, also joined the activity.

The local government said that improvements are continuously being done on bike lanes so cyclists and other alternative transport users can travel safely.

The city received a bronze award from the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) during the National Bike Lane Awards held last November 2021.

The program aims to recognize the best practices and innovations of different local government units in establishing bike lanes.

The local government encouraged its residents to use bicycles as an alternative mode of transportation as cycling serves as an exercise to improve health. They are eco-friendly and affordable.
