Inaugural rites give glimpse of First Family's closeness

The gestures of the First Family toward each other during the inauguration of President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. on Thursday, June 30, showed just how tightly-knit they are.

Marcos, his wife Liza, and sons Sandro, Simon, and Vincent arrived at the National Museum for the inaugural rites at 11:24 a.m. Thursday.

It turned emotional for the family right after Supreme Court (SC) Chief Justice Alexander G. Gesmundo administer Marcos's oath in front of hundreds of adoring supporters.

When Marcos sat down to sign his oath of office, a misty-eyed Sandro gave him an encouraging tap on his left shoulder. When the patriarch stood up, Sandro was the first one to hug him.

Sandro was elected Ilocos Norte 1st district congressman during the May 9 elections.

As the First Family basked in the applause of their supporters, Marcos noticed that his lawyer-spouse was on the verge of tears as well. So he did what any gentleman would do: hand Liza a handkerchief.

Sure enough, Liza borrowed it and wiped her cheeks. The crowd cheered as of they had seen a showbiz love team on the stage.

Speaking of the First Lady, she was also seen holding the hand of Vincent during the military-civic parade that preceeded the actual oath-taking.

The First Family also applauded together representatives of "heroic" sectors like medical frontliners and overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) who participated in the parade.
