Foreign officials join Marcos' inauguration

Foreign delegates joined President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. as he took his oath for the highest seat in the country Thursday.

Officials who witnessed Marcos Jr.’s inauguration at the National Museum of Fine Arts in Manila included those from two superpowers—China and the US.

Donned in barong, Chinese Vice President Wang Qishan attended the ceremony. He arrived in the country on Wednesday and first met his counterpart, Vice President Sara Duterte-Carpio.

The Chinese official then paid a courtesy visit on Marcos Jr. after his inauguration and reportedly brought to him a congratulatory message from President Xi Jinping.

Xi reportedly expressed readiness to work with Marcos Jr. to come up with a course of development in terms of bilateral ties from a strategic and long-term perspective.

Meanwhile, Second Gentleman Douglas Emhoff also paid a courtesy call. He was joined by other delegates from the White House.

In a statement, the US Embassy in the Philippine said Emhoff underscored the US commitment to work with the Philippines in advancing both countries’ shared goals of promoting peace, security and prosperity.
