BUTUAN CITY - Mild tectonic earthquakes have been recorded in the Pacific Ocean-facing province of Surigao del Sur, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
At least 16 mild tremors were registered since 2:54 a.m. today, June 3.
However, the state agency said these mild tremors did not inflict any damage or injury in the province.
The series of mild earthquakes felt in Surigao del Sur province enabled the various disaster risk reduction and management councils to put their respective rescue teams and personnel on ‘standby mode’ for any major tremor that may hit their respective areas.
Surigao del Sur Gov. Alexander T. Pimentel already alerted all DRRMCs in the province to “standby alert” for any tremor that may hit their respective areas of jurisdictions
In its latest bulletin, Phivolcs said a 3.7-magnitude tremor was registered today (June 3) at 9:14 a.m.
The epicenter was plotted 28 kilometers northeast of Cagwait town, Surigao del Sur province.
The new tremor had a shallow depth of only 11 kms, it said.
The earthquake was tectonic in origin.
All the new tremors that struck the Surigao provinces today were tectonic in origin and no tsunami alert was raised.
At 2:54 early this morning (June 3), a 5.6-magnitude tectonic earthquake jolted the said province, and its epicenter was traced 31 kms northeast, with a depth of 16 kms in the same town of Cagwait but there were no reported damage or injury.
