CEBU CITY – A 29-year-old pregnant woman was killed after a trailer truck ran over her in Mandaue City Thursday, June 2.
Police identified the fatality as Jouana Mie Dacua, a pharmacy cashier.
Police said the victim was riding a “habal-habal” (motorcycle for hire) on her way to work when the accident occurred shortly before noon in Barangay Maguikay.
The driver of the motorcycle, Johnrey Caparoso, was injured in the accident. The incident was captured by the security camera of a nearby establishment.
In the video, the motorcycle was traveling beside a trailer truck when it crashed. Dacua was pinned by the truck when she and Caparoso were thrown off the motorcycle because of the impact. The victim died on the spot while Caparoso was rushed to a hospital.
The truck driver, Ric Lagura, 47, surrendered to the police after the incident.
Emotions ran high when the woman’s relatives, including her mother Normilita, visited the accident site Friday morning, June 3. Normilita disclosed that her daughter was six months pregnant.
Normilita shared that her daughter was on her day off that day but was told to work as a reliever. “Pinangga kaayo na nako anak. Di jud ko kadawat. Buotan kaayo na akong anak, naningkamot jud na mahuman (I love my daughter very much. I cannot accept what happened to her. She was a good child who really works hard so she could finish her studies),” an emotional Normilita said.
