Motorcycle-riding cop dies three days after figuring in road accident in Cagayan


IGUIG, Cagayan -- A Philippine National Police (PNP) member who was assigned here died on Friday, June 3, three days after he figured in a road accident along the national highway in Barangay Minanga Norte in this town.

Lieutenant Isabelita Gano, information officer of Cagayan Provincial Police, confirmed to Manila Bulletin the death of corporal Archie Cagurangan, 34, and resident of Barangay San Esteban, Iguig, Cagayan.

At around 8 a.m. last Wednesday, May 31, Cagurangan’s motorcycle was bumped off by another motorcycle which was driven by a certain Ricson Gamata in an accident that happened along the national highway in this town.

The police investigators said Gamata, an auto-electrician and resident of Zone-6, Barangay Awallan, Baggao, Cagayan, admitted that he was running at the speed of 90 kilometers per hour, claiming he was in a hurry to visit his father who was confined at Saint Paul Hospital.

He told the police he was able to warn corporal Cagurangan with his horn, but the latter, he said, still crossed the road.

Gamata sustained minor injuries and managed to get away from the middle of the road for his safety while corporal Cagurangan suffered severe injuries.

Cagurangan was brought to the hospital but unfortunately he died Friday, according to Lieutenant Isabelita Gano.
