Boy, 12, killed by delivery van in Negros

BACOLOD CITY – A 12-year-old boy died after he was ran over by a delivery van loaded with groceries in Sitio Tanquinto, Barangay Jonob-Jonob, Escalante City, Negros Occidental Thursday, June 2.

The name of the victim was withheld.

Police Staff Sgt. Alberto dela Cruz Jr., traffic investigator of the Escalante City Police Station, said the delivery van was on its way to Barangay Balintawak, Escalante City when the victim suddenly crossed the street.

Dela Cruz said the victim was carrying nipa palms on his right shoulder when the accident happened. He died on the spot.

Dela Cruz said delivery van driver Harim Marquez, 40, of Tondo, Manila tried to avoid the child, but the vehicle reportedly still hit the victim.

He said that Marquez was released from police custody after the lapse of his reglementary detention.
