ILIGAN CITY – A barangay chairman in this city has called on the mother of an infant girl wrapped in a blanket and was left beside the waiting shed at Purok 18-A.
Cesarve Siacor, barangay captain of Tomas Cabili and president of the Association of Barangay Captains in this city, has pleaded with the parents to show up for the baby who was found by residents on Monday (May 30) morning.
"Kung sino iyong nagmamay-ari ng bata, sinong mga magulang, nakikiusap ako sa inyo na magpakilala ka, magkita tayo dahil nakakaawa ang bata na lumalaki na walang magulang (“Whoever owns the child, whoever her parents are, I beg on you to please come out. Let us meet because it’s a pity to see the baby grow without her parents”),” said Siacor.
The infant was found at around 5:50 a.m. by residents who then reported it to the barangay and the police.
Iligan City Police Station 2 (ICPS2) Commander Police Major Marvin C. Cajegas said the infant was already carried and attended by Liza Monero and Sorena Beldad, attending midwives of Tomas Cabili Barangay Health Center.
Patrol personnel of ICPS2 together with the midwives brought the infant to Don Gregorio T Lluch Memorial Hospital (GTLMH) for immediate medical attention since the baby still had a placenta, said Cajegas.
According to the hospital's assessment, the infant is estimated to be around 35 weeks, weighing 1.5 kilograms and in healthy and normal conditions.
The infant will eventually be turned over to Region X Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), said Siacor in a regional television program.
