3 Calbayog City councilors from LP resign

TACLOBAN CITY – Three city councilors from the Liberal Party (LP) and one barangay chairman in Calbayog City resigned from their posts before the end of their terms on June 30.

This was confirmed by Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Samar Director Judy Batulan.

A report identified the three councilors are Charlie Coñejos and Cesar Sabenecio from the first district and Billy Martires from the second district.

Marcelina Aquino, the wife of slain city Mayor Ronald Aquino, the chairman of Barangay San Policarpo, also tendered her resignation.

Conejos said he resigned for personal reasons. The three other officials have yet to disclose why they resigned.

Batulan said the resignation of the three councilors will only be effective once entered into the record in the Sangguniang Panglunsod as provided for by the Local Government Code.

Aquino's resignation will be final once accepted by city Mayor Diego Rivera.
