Davao City's incoming vice mayor to propose establishment of presidential library for PRRD

DAVAO CITY — Incoming Vice Mayor Jay Melchor Quitain Jr. said he will propose the establishment of a presidential library in Davao City in honor of outgoing President Duterte.

Quitain said that the library will feature the life and works, and accomplishments of Duterte from the time he became mayor of Davao until he was elected as the country’s 16th President in 2016.

“I take this opportunity to propose for the establishment of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte Presidential Library here in the City of Davao and, if allowed, to spearhead the same to honor the life’s work and accomplishment of a great leader and Dabawenyo who battled the odds and became the 16th President of the Republic of the Philippines,” he said.

The Duterte family has ruled Davao City for more than three decades.

Duterte served as mayor from 1988 to 1998, representative of the first district from 1998 to 2001, mayor from 2001 to 2010, vice mayor from 2010 to 2013, and mayor from 2013 to 2016.

His daughter, outgoing Mayor Sara, is set to assume her post as the country’s Vice President at noon of June 30.

Quitain said the library will serve as a medium where future generations of Dabawenyos ‘will be able to research and be educated about this great city of ours and with it, our beloved president of the Republic of the Philippines.’

Supporters of President Duterte will organize a homecoming concert for him at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday at the NCCC Mall VP Parking A.

In a release, it said that the ‘concert is a tribute to PRRD for his service to the country and also homecoming celebration as he returns to Davao City after his 6-year stint as the 16th president of the Republic of the Philippines.’

It said the President will attend during the concert.

Among the groups who will perform in the concert include the Dukes, Llanto Kids, The Curve PH, Rima Band, The Nemrac Band, Donjie & Duke Kervy Salazar, and R2K with Aila Santos.
