Rains may prevail over most parts of PH due to brewing storm, southwest monsoon — PAGASA

Rainy weather may persist on Wednesday, June 29, in most parts of the country due to the low pressure area (LPA) and southwest monsoon or “habagat,” the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Tuesday, June 28.

As of 3 p.m., PAGASA estimated the location of the LPA at 420 kilometers west of Iba, Zambales.

“This weather disturbance may develop into a tropical depression within the next 24 hours,” PAGASA said in its 11 a.m. weather advisory.

“Caloy” will be the name of the next tropical cyclone inside the country’s area of responsibility.

PAGASA said that cloudy skies, scattered rain showers, and thunderstorms may prevail over Luzon, Visayas, and Zamboanga Peninsula in the next 24 hours.

The public is advised to remain vigilant against possible flash floods or landslides due to “moderate to at times heavy rains.”

Once the LPA becomes a tropical depression, PAGASA said that moderate to rough seas may prevail over the western seaboards of Central and Northern Luzon.

“These conditions are risky for those using small seacrafts. Mariners are advised to take precautionary measures when venturing out to sea and, if possible, avoid navigating in these conditions,” PAGASA said.

Meanwhile, the rest of Mindanao will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers due to localized thunderstorms.

PAGASA also warned the public against flash floods or landslides that may occur during severe thunderstorms, which are often accompanied by sudden heavy rains, lightning, thunder, gusty winds, and sometimes hail.
