Rains threaten Marcos inauguration

A rainy inauguration awaits President-elect Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. with the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) projecting a “high chance” of rains in Metro Manila on Thursday, June 30.

“Buong Thursday hanggang Friday ay magiging maulap ang ating kalangitan dahil sa habagat. Mataas rin ang tsansa ng mga kalat-kalat na pag-ulan at pagkidlat-pagkulog (Throughout Thursday and Friday, June 30 to July 1, our skies will be cloudy due to the southwest monsoon. There is also a high chance of scattered rains and thunderstorms),” weather specialist Ana Clauren-Jorda said on Tuesday, June 28.

Marcos’ supporters are expected to converge at the National Museum in Manila where the 17th president of the Philippines will take his oath of office.

Tropical depression “Caloy” may enhance the southwest monsoon or “habagat” and could bring scattered rains over several parts of the country, including Metro Manila, until weekend.

Clauren-Jorda said that PAGASA is also monitoring a cloud cluster east of the country that could develop into another LPA.

She pointed out that these weather systems may contribute significant rainfall over the country in the next few days.
