Over 1,000 BJMP to donate blood

More than 1,000 personnel of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) are expected to participate in the nationwide bloodletting activity to mark the 31st anniversary of the bureau on Tuesday, June 28.

In partnership with various blood banks, the activity is part of the weeklong anniversary celebration of the BJMP on July 1-8.

The program aims to supplement the insufficient volume of blood stored in blood banks due to the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic.

BJMP chief Jail Director Allan Iral commended the efforts of everyone to invite more volunteers and to support the blood donation campaign of the Jail Bureau.

At its national headquarters, the BJMP has partnered with the Philippine Children’s Medical Center for the undertaking.

“Malaking bagay na nagkakaisa tayo sa adbokasiyang magdudugtong ng buhay ng kapwa natin lalo na ng mga batang maysakit sa hospital (It is important that we unite in the advocacy to extend the lives of our fellowmen especially the ailing children confined in the hospitals),’’ Iral said.

Iral said that voluntarily donating blood is not only good for the health but also is a big boost to our poor fellowmen who are in dire need of blood transfusion.

The BJMP expects other government agencies to take part in the one-day bloodletting activity where at least 1000 bags of blood are most likely to be collected from the blood donation activity which will then be turned over to various blood banks in the country.

To ensure its compliance with the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) protocols, the BJMP will strictly implement the health protocols, notably, thorough sanitation of the venue, observance of physical distancing, wearing of face masks, and other preventive measures.
