LPA west of PH may develop into a tropical depression — PAGASA

The low pressure area (LPA) west of the country has now a higher chance of developing into a tropical depression, which could enhance the southwest monsoon and bring rains over several areas in the next few days, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Tuesday, June 28.

As of 3 a.m., the location of the LPA was estimated at 305 kilometers west of Dagupan City in Pangasinan province.

Weather specialist Aldczar Aurelio said the LPA will likely exit the country’s area of responsibility by Wednesday or Thursday, June 29 or June 30.

However, in the next 24 hours, the LPA will bring cloudy skies, scattered rain showers, and thunderstorms over the entire Luzon.

Cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms due to the LPA and enhanced southwest monsoon or “habagat” may also prevail over Visayas and Zamboanga Peninsula.

PAGASA warned against possible flash floods or landslides due to moderate to heavy rains in areas affected by the LPA and habagat.

Meanwhile, the rest of Mindanao will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.

PAGASA also warned the public against flash floods or landslides that may occur during severe thunderstorms, which are often accompanied by sudden heavy rains, lightning, thunder, gusty winds, and sometimes hail.
