LPA develops into tropical depression Caloy — PAGASA

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said the low pressure area (LPA) west of Zambales has developed into a tropical depression and was named “Caloy.”

The weather disturbance developed into a tropical depression at around 8 p.m., Tuesday, June 28, PAGASA said.

In the PAGASA’s public weather forecast on Tuesday afternoon, weather specialist Ana Clauren-Jorda said that cloudy skies, scattered rain showers, and thunderstorms may prevail over Luzon, Visayas, and Zamboanga Peninsula in the next 24 hours.

The public is advised to remain vigilant against possible flash floods or landslides due to “moderate to at times heavy rains.”

Moreover, PAGASA said that moderate to rough seas may prevail over the western seaboards of Central and Northern Luzon.

“These conditions are risky for those using small seacrafts. Mariners are advised to take precautionary measures when venturing out to sea and, if possible, avoid navigating in these conditions,” it said.

Meanwhile, the rest of Mindanao will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers due to localized thunderstorms.

PAGASA also warned the public against flash floods or landslides that may occur during severe thunderstorms, which are often accompanied by sudden heavy rains, lightning, thunder, gusty winds, and sometimes hail.
