Farmers' group to lay down demands for next admin's first 100 days

Intending to help resolve the ongoing the food crisis, peasant group Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas (KMP) announced that they will be laying down dozen “concrete and doable demands” that president-elect Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s administration can accomplish within the first 100 days.

“As incoming president and agriculture secretary, there is a whole array of things Marcos Jr. can urgently accomplish for the sake of farmers and the country’s food security situation – the least of this is to let us speak out our current issues and urgent demands,” said KMP Chairperson Danilo Ramos in a press statement on Tuesday, June 28.

KMP also confirmed that they will be joining protests at Liwasang Bonifacio on the inauguration day, further hitting Marcos Jr.’s refusal to disclose his plan of actions to address the ongoing crisis in the country.

“The incoming administration will face numerous problems, but its first challenge will be respecting a dissenting but peaceful protests,” Ramos added.

This statement came after Philippine National Police (PNP) Acting Police Chief Lieutenant General Vicente Danao stated that they will only “allow” rallyists who will support the new administration and shout “Mabuhay si Bongbong Marcos!” on his inauguration.

Meanwhile, Marcos Jr. is set to be inaugurated as the 17th President of the Philippines on June 30, 2022 at the National Museum in Manila.
