Palace thanks Filipinos 'for standing behind' Duterte

Three days before the end term of the Duterte administration, outgoing Presidential Spokesman Martin Andanar expressed gratitude to the Filipino people "for standing behind" the government for the past six years, thus making the 16th President "the most popular chief executive" based on a latest survey conducted by a campaigns firm.

In a statement, Andanar said the administration is "elated with the latest Publicus Asia Pahayag Second Quarter 2022 Survey showing outgoing President Rodrigo Roa Duterte as the most popular Chief Executive at the end of his term."

This came after Duterte, according to the survey, received 75 percent approval rating and 69 percent trust rating before stepping out of office on June 30.

"Having said this, we express our deep gratitude to the Filipino people for standing behind the President who has broken barriers and has overcome challenges in his six years of service to the nation."

The administration also thanked the public for its support to the government, particularly in "bringing genuine, meaningful and positive change, which a great majority of Filipinos (75 percent) felt, when asked regarding the development impact of post-EDSA 1 Administrations."

With a Marcos administration coming, Andanar called on the Filipino people to remain united in a bid to make the country "a peaceful, proud and progressive country that we all want our nation to be."
