P1.4B city funds assured as Malabon City holds turnover rites

The incoming local leaders of Malabon City are assured of available city funds amounting to P1.4 billion during the turnover ceremony from outgoing Mayor Antolin "Lenlen" Oreta to Mayor-elect Jeannie Sandoval held on Monday, June 27.

Oreta assured that he will not leave his position without funds.

“I am not leaving you to start out with nothing. Here is the bank balance as of June 15, 2022: P1,427,755,035.97,” he said.

Oreta formally turned over the mayoral duties and responsibilities to Sandoval who will officially start her term on Friday, July 1.

During the turnover ceremony, Oreta shared the projects that were completed during his nine-year term.

“Back then, it was difficult to ensure that everyone received proper assistance and service because of limited resources. But over the years, due to the improvement of our internal systems, our services to Malabonians have also improved,” Oreta said in a statement.

The outgoing mayor’s projects have helped a lot of residents particularly the informal settlers.

The healthcare services have improved, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic, and also educational, feeding, rehabilitation clinic and drug rehabilitation programs.

According to Oreta, the city government borrowed a total of P1.15 billion in 2020 to fund six projects in the city.

As of 2022, three projects are under construction. These are the Longos and Tonsuya Super Health Centers, the renovation of Portrero Super Health Center and City Health Building, and the ongoing rehabilitation of the Tugatog Public Cemetery.

“These initiatives are always for the betterment of the Malabonians and what we owe will not affect the increase or decrease of taxes,” he said.
