Iloilo governor assures aid for dengue-hit towns

ILOILO CITY – Iloilo Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr. has assured aid for towns badly hit by the mosquito-borne disease dengue from the provincial government.

“We are ready to augment and provide what is necessary,” said Defensor after a 217 percent increase in dengue cases was recorded in the province.

Data from the Iloilo Provincial Health Office showed that the province has 568 dengue cases and six fatalities as of June 18.

Defensor has issued an executive order assuring that the provincial government can augment healthcare personnel, equipment, or supplies to the 42 towns in the province and component city of Passi.

He also assured that the provincial government can procure and distribute dengue kits, adulticides, larvicides, dengue test kits, intravenous fluids, and other medicines.

The Defensor administration is avoiding a repeat of the dengue outbreak that occurred in 2019.

So far, only the local government of San Joaquin has declared a state of calamity after the town logged more than 120 dengue cases.

High number of dengue cases was also recorded in neighboring towns of San Joaquin. Included in the Top 10 are Guimbal, Tubungan, Miag-ao, Oton, and Tigbauan.
