The entire Visayas and parts of Luzon will have scattered rain showers and thunderstorms in the next 24 hours due to the prevalence of a low pressure area (LPA) inside the country’s area of responsibility, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Sunday afternoon, June 26.

PAGASA estimated the location of the LPA at 70 kilometers east-southeast of Surigao City, Surigao del Norte, as of 3 p.m.

It said the weather disturbance is still less likely to develop into a tropical depression in the next 48 hours but will bring light to heavy rains over Visayas, Bicol Region, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon, Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan, Isabela, and Aurora.

“Under these conditions, scattered flooding and rain-induced landslides are likely, especially in areas that are highly or very highly susceptible to these hazards as identified in hazards maps and in areas with significant antecedent rainfall,” PAGASA said.

Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers due to the easterlies and localized thunderstorms.

PAGASA also warned the public against flash floods or landslides that may occur during severe thunderstorms, which are often accompanied by sudden heavy rains, lightning, thunder, gusty winds, and sometimes hail.
