PH College of Physicians says no need to raise alert level

Despite the slight increase of Covid-19 cases in the National Capital Region (NCR), the Philippine College of Physicians (PCP) on Sunday, June 26, said there is no need to raise the alert level.

On Saturday, June 25, the Department of Health (DOH) placed five areas in the NCR under “moderate risk” status due to continuing uptick in Covid-19 cases. The areas were Pasig, San Juan, Quezon City, Marikina, and Pateros.

The NCR currently remains under the Alert Level 1.

Dr. Maricar Limpin, the president of PCP, said that the alert level status might be raised to the more restrictive Alert Level 2 should healthcare utilization would increase.

“For now, kahit po medyo marami-rami nakikita nating mga pasyenteng positibo sa Covid-19, hindi ho kailangan talagang itaas po ‘yung (For now, even there is a slight increase in the number of patients infected with Covid-19, there is still need to raise the alert level),” she said during an interview with DZBB.

Also, she noted that the PCP does not yet recommend raising the alert level as it will affect many Filipinos and the country’s economy.

Limpin said health and safety protocols must be upheld at all times, saying the public must continue wearing a face mask for their protection from the dreaded disease.

“Right now, ‘yung pagsuot po ng face mask ay malaki po ang naitutulong nito kung ikukumpara ho natin sa ibang bansa (Right now, the use of face mask helps us tremendously compare to other countries),” she said, referring to countries that have removed their masking rule which led to higher number of Covid-19 infections.

“I think the face mask has really served us very well,” she stressed.
