Cagayan de Oro mayor-elect presents plan to help different sectors at inauguration

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – Newly elected Mayor Rolando Uy presented at his inauguration at Amphitheater Park here Sunday, June 26, his primary plan to help different sectors in the city recover from the pandemic.

Uy said he will start his plan after the first session day of the new city council to determine the councilors who will hold the different committees.

For the business sector, Uy promised to do his best and with the help of the city council, not implement an increase or impose additional tax.

He also wants to ask help from the city council for incentives for new investors and provide discounts for business owners paying their real property tax or business tax in advance to boost the economy and encourage every business to pay their taxes.

The mayor-elect also wants to condone the unpaid payables of the stall holders in the different public markets to enable them to start a new contract.

For the transportation sector, Uy wants to ask the city council to reduce the fines for drivers to help them in their daily needs.

“I will ask the city council and I hope they will help and allow me to help our people. I will also assure you that the government is always open to listen and to help the people who are in need,” Uy said in the vernacular.

Uy stressed the importance of helping the business sector as it would boost the economy and could help unemployed people find jobs.

In a press conference after the inauguration, re-elected second district Councilor Ian Mark Nacaya said that there might be no opposition to Uy’s economic recovery plan.

“I think there might be no opposition if the mayor’s direction would not be implementing an increase on the real property tax or business tax because that is for the people who are experiencing problems even if they are business people,” Nacaya said in the vernacular.

He also sees no opposition coming from the members of the city council from different political parties as long as the direction is to support the different sectoral groups.

“I think there might also be no opposition even if they are from different political parties if the direction is to support the sectoral groups such as transportation, PWDs, social services as well as other programs,” Nacaya said.

The newly-elected city executives will officially assume office starting 12:01 p.m. Thursday, June 30.
