LPA to bring scattered rains, thunderstorms over parts of Luzon, Mindanao, entire Visayas

A low pressure area (LPA) has developed inside the country’s area of responsibility, which will bring rainy weather over Visayas and parts of Luzon and Mindanao in the next 24 hours, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Sunday, June 26.

As of 3 a.m., PAGASA estimated the location of the LPA at 195 kilometers east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur.

The State weather bureau said the LPA will bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon, Marinduque, Romblon, Bicol Region, Caraga Region, and the Visayas.

Weather specialist Benison Estareja said the LPA has a slim chance of developing into a tropical depression.

However, he warned the public against possible flash floods or landslides due to moderate to heavy rains.

Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers due to the easterlies and localized thunderstorms.

PAGASA also warned the public against flash floods or landslides that may occur during severe thunderstorms, which are often accompanied by sudden heavy rains, lightning, thunder, gusty winds, and sometimes hail.

Based on the latest forecast track, Estareja said the LPA will traverse the Caraga Region, the entire Visayas, and Mimaropa (Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan) in the next two days.

The LPA will emerge over the West Philippine Sea and enhance the southwest monsoon, locally called “habagat,” on Tuesday, June 28.

The enhanced effect of the habagat could bring rains over most of Luzon and Visayas, and the western section of Mindanao until the end of the month, Estareja added.
