PPCRV on May 2022 polls: We consider them 'clean and credible'

“Clean and credible.”

This was how the Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting ‘s(PPCRV’s) co-Information Technology (IT) director, Dr. Willian Emmanuel Yu, described the recently concluded May 2022 elections.

“So based on what we’ve seen, we can make conclusions based on observations we have, yes it was clean and credible,” he said during a virtual forum on Saturday, June 25.

With regards to the technology used during the polls, Yu said it was the “best we can expect from the technology considering they have been used for three elections already.”

The co-IT director of the PPCRV said there are some areas for improvement, saying the elections can still be improved in terms of “logistics and how the elections was run.”

“But in general we consider them clean and credible,” Yu stressed.

On May 21, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) said it started investigating four election returns (ERs) that were detected by the PPCRV as they do not match with their electronically-transmitted counterparts.

Earlier, it can be recalled that PPCRV Chairperson Myla Villanueva allayed doubts surrounding the results of the May 2022 elections, saying that the transmission of poll results in 2019 was faster than this year.

During the May 2022 polls, the poll body said a total of 1,310 VCMs were replaced after they malfunctioned.

Initially, the Comelec announced that around 1,800 VCMs suffered glitches on Election Day, May 9.
