Police uproot P240,000 marijuana plants, nab 2 farmers in Negros

BACOLOD CITY – Fifty-seven fully grown marijuana plants valued at P240,000 were uprooted and two suspected cultivators were arrested by police in Sitio Handalago, Barangay Nataban, San Carlos City, Negros Occidental Friday, June 24.

Police identified the suspects as Armando Quejado, 27; and Peter Loar, 30, both farmers and residents of Barangay Nataban.

Police Lt. Col. Jesus Mesahon Jr., San Carlos City police chief, said the marijuana plants weighing two kilos were found near Loar’s residence. Loar and Quejado denied that they own them, according to Mesahon.

Mesahon said that some residents have complained about the marijuana plants grown in a remote part of the barangay but they could not immediately report to the police since Loar was allegedly armed. “Hadlok sila mag report kay may armas daw ni si Peter” (They were afraid to report because Peter is reportedly armed).”

Mesahon said they confirmed the veracity of the information through surveillance.

He said that drug charges are being readied against the suspects.
