'Agriculture Hub' established in Manaoag to address food security crisis

MANAOAG, Pangasinan – Farmers here and in neighboring towns stand to benefit from all-in facilities they would need in their farming following the establishment of the so-called ‘Agriculture Hub’ in Brgy. Cabanbanan.

Established with the help of the Department of Agriculture and the Local Government of Manaoag, the hub showcases facilities a farmer would need in farming such as ‘mobile dryer,’ ‘recirculating batch dryer,’‘Rice Processing System-1,’ ‘Warehouse,’ and ‘solar drying pavement.’

The establishment of the hub is meant to help the farmers boost their farm products and contribute to the food security effort and ultimately mitigate the effects of pandemic and rising fuel prices.

“Sa panahon natin ngayon, napakalaking problema talaga ang ‘food security’ ng ating bansa na mas pinalala pa ng mga kaganapang nangyayari sa ibang bansa kaya naman nagtutulungan ang iba’t ibang ahensya ng ating gobyerno upang ito’y matugunan,” said Rep. Christopher De Venecia.

De Venecia made the effort to secure assistance from concerned agencies for the realization of the project.

He noted that various agencies of government are working together to address it.

“Noong aking binisita ang naturang proyekto nitong June 2, 2022 ay nasaksihan ko ang 25 na magsasaka mula sa iba’t ibang bayan ng Pangasinan na nagsasanay sa tulong ng DA-PhilMech sa pag gamit ng nasabing ‘dryers’ at ‘Rice Processing System-1,’ he added.

De Venecia learned from Engr. Arnold Geronimo, Municipal Agriculturist of Manaoag that the municipality of Manaoag is planning to plant ‘Golden Rice from DA-PhilRice.’

“Lubos lubos akong nagpapasalamat sa Kagawaran ng Pagsasaka sa mga tulong na naipamahagi hindi lamang para sa PD4 kundi para sa mga magsasaka ng buong Pangasinan! Sana ay mas marami pa kayong matulungan,” added De Venecia.
