Aside from Paris gold, Yulo wants to build gym for young gymnasts in 2024

Elite gymnast Carlos Yulo has his own plans on helping and giving back to the next generation of athletes by establishing his own gym in the future.

The 22-year-old Yulo, along with Japanese coach Munehiro Kugimiya, vowed to do so should he win a gold medal in the 2024 Paris Olympics.

This was also his promise to Gymnastics Association of the Philippines (GAP) Cynthia Carrion, aside from ruling the Paris Games.

"Sa 2024 siguro, kahit saan apparatus or kahit hindi sa all-around. Sa future po gusto ko magtayo ng gym kasama ng coach ko," said Yulo Tuesday, June 21, during a press conference and victory part at the Heritage Hotel Manila in Pasay City.

Yulo, however, has yet to pick a specific location and wanted to give more opportunity for athletes living in the provinces.

The decision also saw some similarities to what fellow Tokyo Olympian Hidilyn Diaz did when she built a weightlifting gym in Zamboanga City which was completed in 2018.

"Siyempre 'di lang po sa Manila. Gusto namin palawakin 'yong gymnastics sa buong Pilipinas. Hindi lang naman po sa Manila 'yong talents. 'Yong iba po galing sa provinces 'yong magagaling. Marami pong may potential na mga bata na kayang mag-gymnastics."
