BACOLOD CITY -- Two days after a minor was killed here, another minor was gunned down by unidentified armed men, this time at Abada Escay Zone 3, Barangay Vista Alegre Thursday, June 23.

Police withheld the name of the 14-year-old victim who was the 11th in a series of shooting incidents here this month.

Police Capt. Elmer Bonilla, head of Police Station 7, said the victim was outside his house when five armed men arrived on board a white L300 van around 10:35 p.m.

Bonilla said the victim ran upon seeing the perpetrators. However, he was chased until the perpetrators caught up with him.

Bonilla said there was no altercation that happened. The armed men shot the victim several times, until he fell into a creek, where he was believed to be shot again, Bonilla said.

The perpetrators, who were wearing bonnets, left after the incident as seen in a closed circuit television (CCTV) camera footage.

Police recovered from the crime scene empty cartridges for a .45 caliber firearm and carbine rifle.

Bonilla said they are eyeing three angles behind the incident, considering the background of the victim.

He said they are looking into drug-related as the father of the victim was jailed for a drug offense and his uncle was also previously jailed for a drug offense and murder case.

Bonilla said they are also looking into conflict between two families and mistaken identity as possible motives.

He said it is possible that someone may have grudges against the victim or his family.

Despite obtaining a copy of the CCTV camera footage, Bonilla said they have no lead yet on the perpetrators as it failed to capture the car plate.

This is the third shooting incident this week and the second case this month involving a minor here.

Last Wednesday, June 22, a 17-year-old boy was shot dead by a 16-year-old boy after the former failed to give a solvent to the latter in Barangay Singcang-Airport. Both were identified by police as alleged “Rugby boys” in the area.
