39K dengue cases recorded from January to June–DOH

The Philippines has so far recorded more than 39,000 dengue cases since the start of this year, the Department of Health (DOH) said.

Citing data from its Epidemiology Bureau, there were 39,705 dengue cases reported from Jan. 1 to June 4.

“Cumulatively, cases this year is 31 percent higher compared to the reported cases during the same period in 2021 (30,231),” the DOH said.

The regions with the most number of cases are Central Visayas (5,169), Central Luzon (5,087), and Zamboanga Peninsula (3,611).

The DOH also noted that certain regions “show an increasing trend in the recent four morbidity weeks.” These regions are Central Luzon, Mimaropa, Bicol, Western Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, and Cordillera Administrative Region.

Also, 202 deaths related to dengue have been recorded since January, the DOH said.

There were 39 deaths recorded in January, 36 in February, 34 in March, 43 in April, 48 in May and two in June, the DOH said.

The DOH reminded the public to practice the 4s strategy: search and destroy mosquito breeding sites; secure self-protection measures like wearing long pants and long-sleeved shirts, and daily use of mosquito repellent; seek early consultation; and support fogging/spraying in hotspot areas.
