Uncalibrated fuel pumps discovered during inspection in Cebu City

CEBU CITY – Uncalibrated fuel pumps were discovered during an inspection of gasoline stations here Monday, June 20.

The fuel pumps were found to be uncalibrated when personnel from the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) and the City Hall Prevention, Restoration, Order, Beautification, and Enhancement (PROBE) team started inspecting gas stations operating in this city.

“The inspection was made upon the directive of Mayor Michael Rama to ensure that all gas stations in the city have well-calibrated pumps,” said Police Lt. Col. Wilbert Parilla, CCPO deputy chief for administration.

Parilla revealed two teams were created to inspect gas stations here.

One team will inspect gas stations in the south district while the other team was tasked to check on fuel stations in the north district.

Parilla said a gas station on V. Rama St. was found to have six uncalibrated pumps.

A gas station on N. Bacalso Ave. had five defective pumps and another gas station in Barangay Punta Princesa had three pumps that were not properly calibrated.

“The defective pumps of these gas stations had been locked. They cannot be used until they are recalibrated,” said Parilla.

Notices have been sent to the management of the gas stations to explain the presence of defective pumps.

The gas stations have been warned to take necessary actions, Parilla said. “The city has the authority to shut down these gas stations if they do not take necessary steps to address the presence of defective pumps in their stations,” said Parilla.

Parilla said they were still awaiting the results of the other inspections.

More inspections will be done in the coming days, Parilla said. “The instruction of the mayor is to ensure that all gas stations have calibrated pumps. Prices of petroleum products have been soaring and it will add burden to the public if they will be cheated because of these uncalibrated pumps,” said Parilla.
