Taguig LGU conducts anti-dengue misting, larviciding

The Taguig City government conducted another round of anti-dengue misting and larviciding operations in different areas amid an increase in cases in the country.

Through the Taguig City Health and Sanitation Office, the city government conducted the operations in Barangay South Daang Hari on June 22, aimed at preventing the spread of dengue-carrying mosquitoes. In misting, a machine is used to drive away mosquitoes.

During a media briefing on June 22, Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said from Jan. 1 to June 4 this year, the Philippines recorded 39,705 cases of dengue, an increase of 31 percent compared to the same period last year. She said the highest dengue cases were reported in Regions VII, III and IX.

From May 8 to June 4, there were 9,814 dengue cases reported with the highest number in Regions III, VII and 4A.

“In other regions, we are already noting increasing trends in the recent four morbidity weeks,” she said.

Vergeire said 14 out of 17 regions have already exceeded their epidemic thresholds in the past four weeks.

As of June 22, there are 202 deaths from dengue in the country. According to the DOH, there were 39 deaths in January, 36 in February, 34 in March, 43 in April, 48 in May, and two in June.
