LPA continues to bring rain showers, thunderstorms in E. Visayas, Luzon

The low pressure area (LPA) spotted north of Borongan City, eastern Samar will continue to bring cloudy skies, scattered rains, and thunderstorms in Luzon and Visayas, said the state weather bureau on Thursday, June 23.

Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) weather specialist Samuel Duran said that the LPA was last spotted 145 kilometers (km) north of Borongan City, eastern Samar.

While the weather disturbance remained less likely to develop into tropical depression, Duran said that it is still expected to bring rains especially in Luzon and the eastern section of Visayas.

“Asahan po natin itong central Luzon, Calabarzon, kasama po ang kamaynilaan, Benguet, Mountain Province, Quirino, at Nueva Vizcaya ay makakaranas po ng mga kalat-kalat na pag-ulan na pagkidlat at pagkulog dahil sa LPA (Scattered rains showers, lightning, and thunderstorms are expected in central Luzon, Calabarzon, along with Manila, Benguet, Mountain Province, Quirino, and Nueva Vizcaya due to the LPA),” said Duran in a public weather forecast.

“Para sa Visayas at Mindanao, asahan po natin itong Samar provinces: Samar, eastern Samar, at northern Samar ay makakaranas ng mga pag-ulan dahil sa LPA (For Visayas and Mindanao, we can expect these Samar provinces: Samar, eastern Samar, and northern Samar to experience rain showers due to the LPA),” he furthered.

Localized thunderstorms may persist in the rest of Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. When severe, these localized thunderstorms may cause a tornado, hail, landslide, or flooding. This, according to Duran, is why the public should remain vigilant against the possible impacts of a thunderstorm.
