Comelec proclaims Romeo Jalosjos Jr. as Zamboanga del Norte 1st District representative

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) proclaimed on Thursday, June 23, re-electionist Romeo Jalosjos Jr. as Zamboanga del Norte's 1st District representative.

According to Comelec Spokesperson John Rex C. Laudiangco, Jalosjos Jr. was proclaimed by the Provincial Board of Canvassers on Thursday morning at the Comelec Session Hall.

"The decision of the Commission had attained finality and the Clerk of the Commission issued the Certificate of Finality," he said.

"The Commission issued the Writ of Execution declaring Federico Jalosjos as nuisance candidate, thereby declaring all votes in his favor as additional votes for the legitimate candidate, Romeo Jalosjos Jr.," he added.

Jalosjos was originally behind Roberto “Pinpin” Uy Jr., who garnered 69,519 votes, winning by a slim margin of 482 votes over Rep. Romeo Jalosjos Jr. Another Jalosjos – Federico – got 5,424 votes.

Uy's camp also filed a petition with the Comelec en banc to reconvene the PBOC, and proclaim him as the prevailing candidate in the first district of the province.

With the execution of the Commission’s decision which has become "final" and "executory", Federico's votes were credited to Romeo.
