GUINAYANGAN, Quezon – Seven persons were injured when the jeepney they were riding plunged into a creek in Barangay Dancalan Central here Wednesday, June 22.
Police identified the injured as Elena Umali Hernandez, 54, teacher; John Roy Villanueva, 17, student; Emilia Villanueva, 57; Jennifer Bautista, 44; Nonato Beco, 58; Rowena Villanueva, 44, and Nonilon Alday, 49, all residents of Barangay Capuluan, this town.
Police Patrolman Raul Almario, local police investigator, said that the jeepney was on its way to Barangay Capuluan Central from the town proper at around 8:30 p.m. when, upon reaching the descending curved portion of the road, driver Leonilo Arellano, 59, of Barangay Capuluan Central, lost control of the vehicle and fell into a creek.
A concerned citizen informed the police of the incident that conducted a rescue operation with the local disaster management office.
The injured were taken to the Guinayangan Medical Hospital but Arellano fled and is now the subject of a police manhunt.
