Philadelphia police goes after gunman in Pinoy lawyer's killing

Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney and the city's police force assured the Philippines that they will go after the gunman behind the random shooting incident that led to the tragic death of visiting Filipino lawyer John Laylo.

Philippine Consul General Elmer Cato disclosed that he met with Kenney and officials from the Philadelphia Police on June 22, following the fatal shooting incident.

Cato said the Philadelphia mayor and the police authorities assured that "they will do everything they can to bring to justice whoever is responsible for the death of our kababayan John Albert Laylo."

Police revealed that the shooting of Laylo "could be a case of mistaken identity," adding that the "gunman appears to have fired at the wrong vehicle that was similar to what he was chasing."

Laylo and his mother were inside a vehicle when the shooting spree happened. Laylo was hit in the head while his mother sustained minor injuries.

The Filipino lawyer was declared dead on Monday morning, June 20. He was in the United States for a vacation.

On June 21, the Filipino community in Philadelphia held a memorial vigil for Laylo outside the Penn Presbyterian Medical Center where he passed away.
