PCG finalizes security plan for Marcos Jr.'s inauguration

Final preparations are underway for the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) to help secure the inauguration of President-elect Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on June 30.

Admiral Artemio Abu, PCG Commandant, said more than 100 coast guardians will act as security personnel and be deployed in various strategic areas around the National Museum in Manila where Marcos Jr. will take his oath as the 17th President of the Philippines.

PCG land vehicles will also augment road patrols to control traffic flow in Manila while the Coast Guard Fleet will dispatch rigid hull inflatable boats, aluminum boats, and personal watercraft to provide intensified maritime patrol in the vicinity waters off Manila Bay and Pasig River.

“We are now finalizing guidelines and protocols to minimize, if not prevent, maritime incidents that may arise due to threat groups that intend to disrupt the inauguration ceremony or endanger the lives of the general public,” Abu said on Tuesday, June 21.

To uphold public health and safety, the Coast Guard Medical Service will also form a medical team equipped with a Coast Guard ambulance to provide first aid and other immediate medical assistance to the general public on the day of the occasion.

The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) tapped the PCG to support the Task Group Maritime Security – National Capital Region and Central Luzon (NCR-CL) which is in charge of ensuring maritime security and maritime safety during the inauguration of Marcos Jr.

Abu said the PCG “will work side by side” with the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), Philippine National Police (PNP), and other concerned government agencies to ensure the peaceful and orderly conduct of the event.
