'I'll be senator one day': Lagman's son make 'promise' in belated Father's Day post
Former Albay 1st district Rep. Edcel Grex Lagman Jr. teased his father, sitting Albay 1st district Rep. Edcel Lagman Sr., that he would one day run for senator in a belated Father’s Day greeting.

“Don’t worry papa. I’ll be senator one day. Pramis. Ako ang tutupad ng pangarap mo (Promise. I will fulfill your dream). Chos!” Lagman Jr. said in a Facebook post on Monday, June 20.
Lagman Jr. greeted his father in the post and recounted the time the senior Lagman ran for a Senate seat in 1998.
“He placed 14th with 7M + votes. Of course he was tops in the Bicol Region with 1.1M votes where he beat out the late Tiyo Rolly Andaya and Loren Legarda who placed 2nd and 3rd, respectively,” the younger Lagman wrote.
“Happy that i was the one he trusted to campaign and speak for him in LAMMP’s campaign sorties in some cities in the Visayas and Mindanao whenever he cannot personally attend the same. He was 56 then. I was 25,” he continued.
The post was more than just a way to tease the elder Lagman; more importantly, it was a way to pay tribute to him.
“Here's a man who was never afraid to lose or fail as long as his heart was in the right place. And, more importantly, as long as they were ‘the good fights’ where he can fully advocate his worthwhile causes,” Lagman Jr. said.
Lagman Jr– now vice governor of Albay–served as district representative in the 16th Congress from 2013 to 2016.
Eighty-year-old human rights lawyer Lagman Sr. has held the 1st district post multiple times over the years: from 1987 to 1998 in the 8th, 9th, and 10th Congresses; from 2004 to 2013 in the 13th, 14th, and 15th Congresses; and from 2016 up until the 17th Congress and again in the upcoming 19th Congress.
