Re-elected Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto said on Monday, June 20, that the local government will focus and refine their efforts in creating, funding, and implementing more social service programs and projects in the city for his next three-year term.

The local government aims to utilize the increased budget of the city, gathered from the money saved due to reforms to the city's bidding and procurement processes, for adding more social service-related programs aside from its current infrastructure projects.
"Ang talagang isang tututukan natin at paglalaanan natin ng malaking pondo ay ang mga social services, mga pangangailangan ng ating lungsod. Gusto pa natin makatulong tayo sa mga mamamayang Pasigueño na higit na nangangailangan (We will surely focus and allocate more funds to social services to meet the needs of the city. We want to further help Pasigueños who are in dire need)," Sotto said during the flag raising ceremony at the city hall.
Among these social service programs is the Local Senior Pension (LSP) distribution, which will be launched in a ceremony set on July 2, coinciding with the celebration of "Araw ng Pasig".
The LSP initiative, spearheaded by Councilor Edith Santiago, offers financial aid to senior citizens aged 65 and above who have no other sources of pension aside from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).
Seniors who are unemployed or were unable to avail of pensions from the Social Security Service (SSS), or the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) are eligible to receive the LSP.
Based on the local government's current records, more than 16,000 senior citizens will receive P500 per month through the LSP starting in July, Sotto said.
The mayor said he has communicated and coordinated with the Office of the Senior Citizens Affairs (OSCA) regarding the allocated funds for the program.
"Ito'y pagpapasalamat na rin natin sa mga seniors natin na inalagaan tayo noong bata tayo, nagtrabaho, at malaki na rin ang naiambag sa ating lipunan (This is also our way of giving thanks to our seniors who have taken care of us since we were children, who have worked for us, and have contributed many things for the good of our society)," Sotto remarked.
Sotto also thanked the offices of the City Social Welfare and Development (CSWD) and the Social Welfare Assistance Center (SWAC) for their essential and valuable efforts in helping Pasigueños and improving the standard of living in the city.
