Lawyer involved in hit-and-run in Bacolod no show in meeting with victim's family

BACOLOD CITY – A lawyer allegedly involved in a hit-and-run incident here last week in which a senior citizen was killed did not appear in his meeting with the victim’s family Monday, June 20.

Police Major Ritchie Gohee, head of Police Station 4, said the lawyer, through a representative, informed the police that he was not allowed to travel here by his doctor due to hypertension.

Gohee said the victim’s family, through their legal counsel, is coordinating directly with the lawyer’s camp. He said he has no idea if there is another scheduled meeting between them.

The victim, Aquilino Cambelisa Jr., 63, of Barangay Mandalagan here, died in a hospital after he was hit by a sedan driven by the lawyer who reportedly fled as witnessed by some rescuers who responded to the scene on La Salle Ave. in Barangay Villamonte on June 16.

Gohee said that a rescuer who was able to capture the rescue operation, including the fleeing lawyer, is willing to execute an affidavit as witness to the incident.

Gohee said they are willing to assist the victim’s family in case they will press charges against the lawyer.
