The Department of Health (DOH) recognized the Parañaque city government for surpassing the targeted number of children in the “Chikiting Bakunation” program.
Mayor Edwin Olivarez thanked DOH Regional Director Gloria Balboa for the certificate of recognition given to the city government during the regular virtual flag-raising ceremony at the City Hall quadrangle on Monday, June 20.
Olivarez said the city government was able to give vaccines to children aged 0 to 23 months old.
The number of children who got the vaccines reached 102 percent, surpassing the 95 percent target for the vaccination program launched by the DOH on May 30.
He said the Chikiting Bakunation aims to protect children against preventable diseases.
The children were given BCG or vaccine against tuberculosis; penta-hib or 5 in 1 vaccine that gives protection to children against five life-threatening diseases like diphtheria and tetanus; and vaccines against polio and measles.
The mayor said the beneficiaries of the program are children who were not able to complete their fundamental vaccines due to the lockdowns during the Covid-19 pandemic.
