Chaye Cabal-Revilla: Trailblazing the path to sustainability

She may not be a showbiz figure in the way most of her celebrity friends traditionally are, but Metro Pacific Investments Corporation (MPIC) Chief Finance, Sustainability, and Risk Officer Chaye Cabal Revilla is as much a celebrity as can be.
Her unrivaled competency in her field of professional expertise may have landed her in key corporate positions starting from the enclaves of telco giants PLDT and Smart, but her innate compassion, leadership, and heart for service managed to prove she is truly a cut above the rest with all the distinctions and awards she has been receiving as a proven trailblazer in the field of sustainability.
Recently, she was distinguished as the ONLY winner from the Philippines in Campaign's Women Leading Change Awards for Asia-Pacific. This award recognizes Chaye among the outstanding women who lead, inspire and motivate greatness in their respective fields from the Asia-Pacific countries.
MPIC President, Chairman and CEO Manny V. Pangilinan, Chaye’s long-standing boss, mentor and friend, heralds his protegee’s big win as he continues to see her as someone who is able to transform business beyond being purely profit-driven, futureproofing its operations and its advocacies for generations to come with her holistic forward-looking perspective and her thriving passion for purpose.
As the first Chief Sustainability officer of the country’s leading infrastructure and investment company, Chaye has truly proven herself a catalyst for change towards advancing sustainable development goals and driving strategic growth.
This award comes in the heels of another distinction where she became part of the Prince Of Wales’ Global CFO Leadership Network and the only Filipino and only woman to join the founding members of the Accounting for Sustainability (A4S) Asia Pacific Chapter.
Chaye is a founding member of the A4S Chief Financial Officers Leadership Network’s new Asia-Pacific Chapter. The A4S was established in 2004 by Charles, the Prince of Wales, to “make sustainable business, business as usual.” The organization works with the finance and accounting community to inspire finance leaders to adopt sustainable and resilient business models, transform financial decision-making to reflect the opportunities and risks posed by the climate crisis and other EESG issues, and scale up action to transition to a sustainable economy.

She was also the only Filipina awarded as one of the Woman Super Achievers at the 5th World Women Leadership Congress in Mumbai, India.
Though the work of pushing for sustainability has its fair share of challenges in the corporate set-up, Chaye bravely pressed on, knowing that the responsibility of ensuring a sustainable world falls largely on the shoulders of the world's enterprises. She and her team took baby steps to gradually integrate sustainability programs into the company’s operations.
Her role as MPIC’s mWell.ph prime mover and CEO bodes well with her mindset of advocacy. mWell is the country’s fastest growing health app which provides doctor consultations with affordable scheme and provide help in this challenging time of the pandemic, where users are allowed to pay less through its acclaimed Healthsaver’s Plan for online doctor consultations 24/7. mWell also serves as a wellness guide and was recently honored in Singapore as the Best Initiative in Technological Innovation in The Asset ESG Corporate Awards, one of the world’s leading and longest-running honors in the environmental, social, and corporate governance (ESG) space.
Early on, when "sustainability" or "sustainable development" were only buzz words pushed by world leaders, Chaye formed Gabay Guro, a passion project involving friends that started in 2007 and had since then become a by-word for the pursuit of excellence among teachers. It is he education arm and flagship program of PLDT-Smart Foundation that tirelessly aims to help build the nation “one teacher at a time.”
Gabay Guro has changed the face of education advocacy with a fresh approach to the pillars of learning -- scholarships for over 52 partner schools for teaching degrees, housing, and educational facilities, training, livelihood programs, broadband computerization, and teachers' tributes. There are over 2,000 Gabay Guro scholars across the country, with an extremely high percentage of graduates, most of whom graduate with honors.
It was in 2019 when she wore the hat as chief sustainability officer of PLDT, a role that led her to launch various sustainability programs such as the environmental stewardship program Gabay Kalikasan. Since then, she got more colleague and employees involved in various projects including getting the unwavering support of MPIC chairman Pangilinan in pushing sustainability as one of the core pillars of the company.
Chaye has marked her niche through years of hard work and has earned the distinction of a true blue sustainability trailblazer for her ability to create programs and policies for a greener future and integrate sustainability in business for the purpose of achieving significant progress in preserving and protecting the people and the planet.
