Army hails 'successful' security ops for VP-elect Sara's inauguration

The Philippine Army’s 10th Infantry Division (10ID) gave itself a pat on the back for successfully ensuring the safety and security of all the attendees during the inauguration of Vice President-elect Sara Duterte-Carpio at San Pedro Square in Davao City on Sunday, June 19.

Around 3,000 troops were deployed by the Philippine Army, Philippine Air Force, and Philippine Navy for the said event, according to Maj. Gen. Nolasco Mempin, commander of 10ID.

“The conduct of inauguration and oath-taking of Vice-President Sara Z. Duterte is generally peaceful. We have no untoward incidents including protest rallies,” Mempin said on Monday, June 20.

He also thanked the military’s partners from the security sector including the Philippine National Police and Philippine Coast Guard for the peaceful inauguration.

The 10ID was among the units tasked to safeguard the oath-taking and inauguration of the country's 15th vice president.

Mempin said he assigned 10ID personnel to man border control points going in and out of Davao City. Personnel assigned at regional boundaries were also placed on full alert status.

He said there was no recorded incident from the threat groups they were monitoring such as communist rebels and lawless armed groups.

The event was attended by top military officials including Gen. Andres Centino, Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP); Lt. Gen. Greg Almerol, commander of Eastern Mindanao Command (EastMinCom); and Brig. Gen. Consolito Yecla, commander of the 1003rd Infantry Brigade, among others.
