Sotto leads symbolic lowering of time capsule at new Senate building

Outgoing Senate President Vicente C. Sotto III today led the symbolic lowering of the time capsule at the basement of the new Senate building at the Naval Village in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City.

In a short message, Sotto walked down memory lane and briefly recalled his journey as a legislator and how the old Congress building, where the National Museum stands, and the current Senate building in Pasay City witnessed so much part of the history of the Senate.

“If only the walls could speak, the stories of the past would be endless. It would be a bittersweet moment to leave behind the Senate’s residence for over two decades,’’ he said.

‘’But I am confident, the new (P8.9 billion) Senate building will undoubtedly kickstart a new and better chapter for the Senate of the Republic,” he added.

Aside from Sotto, present during the ceremonial lowering of the time capsule were Senator Panfilo M. Lacson, Senator Nancy Binay, Senate Secretary Myra Marie D. Villarica, Deputy Secretary for Legislation lawyer Edwin Bellen, Deputy Secretary for Administrative and Financial Services lawyer Arnel Jose S. Bañas, and Senate Legal Counsel Maria Valentina S. Santana-Cruz.

Sotto, Lacson and Binay posed with engineers and construction workers for souvenir photos after conducting a quick inspection of the construction site of the new Senate building.

Zubiri also shared some light moments with the engineers and workers, obliging for a group selfie and signing of hardhats.
