Soldiers under 1st Infantry Battalion engage NPA rebels in 5-minute firefight in Quezon
QUEZON – The government troops engaged a New People’s Army (NPA) group of undetermined number in a five-minute firefight on Wednesday (June 1) afternoon in Barangay Magsikap in General Nakar in this province.
The military report said that that elements belonging to the 1st Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army (1IBPA) and the NPA rebels exchanged fires at around 2:40 p.m. in a remote village of this town.
The military was patrolling the place when they chanced upon the group of rebels.
The exchange of gun fires lasted for about five minutes before the rebels withdrew towards the mountainous portion of the said place.
During the clearing operation, the military recovered an M16 armalite rifle, a hand grenade, an improvised explosive device, three backpacks, and subversive documents.
There were no reported casualties on the side of the military. The military though believed there could be casualties on the side of the fleeing rebels. The military did not elaborate.
