Both the Fighting Maroons, paraded by Gerry Abadiano, Harold Alarcon, and AJ Madrigal, and the Green Archers, led by Donn Lim, Emman Galman, and Ben Phillips, dropped their first games before winning three consecutive matches en route to a twin record of 3-1.
UP absorbed a 15-17 loss at the hands of National University but found its groove in the next game and escaped FEU with a 20-18 victory courtesy of Alarcon's game-winning shot.
The Fighting Maroons cruised past the University of Santo Tomas Growling Tigers, 21-16, before edging the Adamson Soaring Falcons, 15-13.
The Green Archers, for their part, yielded to the Falcons in the opener, 12-18, before routing the Blue Eagles, 15-10, and the Far Eastern University Tamaraws, 22-9.
