CWC, UNICEF hold workshop series on mainstreaming of PH action to end violence against children

The Council for the Welfare of Children (CWC), in partnership with the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) and National Network in Ending Violence Against Children (NNEVAC), led the conduct of a coaching, mentoring, and feedbacking session on the Localization and Mainstreaming of Philippine Plan of Action to End Violence Against Children (PPAEVAC) in Palawan and Iloilo.

The first leg of the face-to-face workshop was held in Busuanga, Palawan on May 23-26.

The PPAEVAC is the country’s blueprint program to help end violence against children (VAC), particularly addressing the results of the 2015 National Baseline Study on Violence Against Children, which brought the daunting realities of high cases of physical, psychological and sexual abuse among children.

Joining the four-day workshop were children, parents/caregivers and members of the Local Council for the Protection of Children and the Barangay Council for the Protection of Children.

The coaching and mentoring focused on planning and identification of priority activities for the PPAEVAC in their locality; brainstorming with children on the development of co-created child-friendly information, education, and communication (IEC) materials on VAC; and feedbacking with children who were part of the PPAEVAC consultations in 2021.

For 2021, the PPAEVAC was localized in nine participating local government units, including Busuanga.

The second leg of the workshop series is being conducted in Oton, Iloilo.

The activity is participated by children from Human Rights Club of Oton, Iloilo and adult representatives from civil society organizations, non-government organizations, and municipality of Oton to develop and co-create child-friendly IEC materials on ending VAC and strengthening child participation in schools, home, and communities.

Meanwhile, the same undertaking will also be conducted in Balamban, Cebu later this month.
